A comprehensive and detailed guide for Eretz Israel and the vicinity, composed by several scholars. Each volume focuses on a different area: Jerusalem and the vicinity, Jaffa, Hebron, Damascus, Sinai and Egypt and is accompanied by detailed engravings depicting views of the area, costumes of inhabitants, customs and more. Engravings are after drawings by John Douglas Woodward and Harry Fenn. In one of the volumes appears an engraving in color with a map of Eretz Israel.
An additional composition appears in volume four: Social Life in Egypt, a Description of the Country and its People, by Stanley Lane-Poole, with numerous engravings depicting the country and its inhabitants.

Avraham Moshe Lunz (1854-1918), Eretz Israeli author, publisher, journalist and scholar, born in Kovno. Founder of the first public library in Jerusalem and the Jewish Institute for the Blind (he himself lost his sight in his twenties). Lunz published many articles dealing with the history of Eretz Israel and founded a printing press in Jerusalem. After publishing an anthology of national poems titled "Kinor David" he was accused of encouraging revolt, was jailed by the Ottoman Regime, and his printing press was closed.
