Old-fashioned Ashkenazi handwriting, clear and pretty. Manuscript begins in middle of responsum 122 from 3rd part of response, printed in Constantinople in 1573.
First page bears handwritten ownership inscription: "This manuscript is of writings of Mahari ben Lev, who lived in time of Beit Yosef – d. 339, who cited his responses in his work Kesef Mishneh. Yosef Elazar".
Rabbi Yosef Elazar Rosenfeld, Rabbi of Freistadtel, Hungary (1843-1915; "The Chatam Sofer and his Disciples", page 196; Otzar 8720), was a disciple of the Ktav Sofer.
134-180 leaves. 27.5 cm. Good condition, worn bottom corners of pages. Creases and slight damages on first and last page. Fine new leather cover.
