Passover Haggadah. [USA? ca. 1950s]. English.
Non-traditional Haggadah, typewritten and mimeographed. Includes passages from the traditional text, some of them are a Hebrew transcription and some an English translation, alongside passages of poetry and prose. Among the poetry passages in the Haggadah: the poem "The Night of Freedom", by the Jewish-American poet Philip M. Raskin; translation of the poem "On the Threshold of the Promised Land" by Chaim Nachman Bialik (the first part of the poem), a poem for Passover by the poet Isabella R. Hess; musical notes for the song "VeHih SheAmdah"; and traditional Passover songs.
The Haggadah also contains an English translation of excerpts from a story about the Holocaust by Moshe Prager – "My Name is Chaim and I Want to Live! The Story of a Refugee Boy" (Was printed in "Hatzofeh for Children", volume 5, issue 14, 1950).
On the front cover appears an illustration of two figures holding torches – a Jew in traditional attire and a soldier. Alongside the illustration, an English translation of the song "Anu Nosim Lapidim" (We Carry Torches) by Aharon Ze'ev was printed (first verse).
[21] leaves, 28 cm. Back cover is missing. Good overall condition. Stains (most of them on the cover and the first leaves). Horizontal fold line in the center of all leaves. Front cover is stained, with creases and small tears along edges.
