A collection of poems by Ryurik Rok (pen name of Emil-Eduard Gering: Эмиль-Эдуард Максимилианович Геринг; 1898-1962). Ryurik Rok, a Russian poet and theater director, was a member of the literary group "Nichevoki" (Ничево́ки), which was active in Russia in the early 1920s. Similar to the European Dada movement, the movement was characterized by breaking literary and social norms, held poetry reading events and published manifestos and works that emphasized their opposition to prevailing conventions in poetry and art.

The cover was designed by Boris Zemenkov (Борис Сергеевич Земенков; 1902-1963), artist and poet, also a member of the "Nichevoki" group.

The book's Russian title – "Sorok Sorokov" (= forty times forty) – Is a historical term referring to the multitude of churches in Moscow, and a figurative expression of abundance.
