Research conducted by Vladimir Ivanovich Markov (also known as Voldemārs Matvejs) on the subject of African art. Markov (1877-1914) was a Russian artist, historian, and art theoretician of Latvian origin, associated with the avant-garde wave of Russian art, and particularly renowned for his articles on art theory and his studies in the fields of African art and Primitivism.
The typographic design of the front cover, as well as the publisher's logo printed on the back cover, are the work of Nathan Altman (1889-1970), an avant-garde Russian painter, graphic artist, book illustrator, sculptor, and stage set designer.
153 pp., 25.5 cm. Good condition. Stains, primarily to cover. Inked stamps. Minor tears and creases to edges of cover and to some leaves. Minor folds and blemishes to cover (signs of abrasion and traces of glue, remnants of inked stamp).
