An American heavyweight boxer, considered as one of the outstanding boxers in history. Won the world championship in heavy weight three times and successfully protected his title for many years.
In 1967 refused, in the name of Islam, to join the American army. As a result he was fined and sentenced to five years in prison. His boxing license was cancelled and he was denied the title of world champion. Following a long struggle against the juridical system he was acquitted by the Supreme Court. Ali took advantage of his successes in the area of boxing to draw the public opinion towards political problems, was active in the black communities in the US and assisted youth in trouble. Retired from professional boxing in 1981. After his retirement got Parkinson disease
