Medal commemorating the inauguration of Glockengasse Synagogue in Cologne, August 1861. Glockengasse synagogue was established in 1861 with Avraham Oppenheim's financial support and was one of the two large synagogues in the city of Cologne prior to WW II. Was demolished by the Nazis in November 1938, in the "Crystal Night". Obverse: the synagogue and inscription: "Synagogue zu Coeln Eingeweiht Am 29 August 1861" [inauguration of the synagogue in Cologne, August 29, 1891], and name of the architect. Reverse: Interior of the synagogue and the inscription" Avraham Oppenheim built the house of God for the Cologne congregation and it was inaugurated…", and maker's mark: J. Wiener F. Diameter: 59 mm.
