Iudaea seu Terra Sancta quae Hebraeorum sive Israelitarum in suas duodecim Tribus divisa secretis ab invicem Regnis Iuda et Israel, map of Palestine. Hand-colored engraving, from one of the editions of Atlas Nouveau by Alexis Hubert Jaillot. Amsterdam: P. Mortier, year not indicated [late 17th century or early 18th century]. Latin.
Map of Palestine on both sides of the Jordan River, with the territories of the Tribes. The shoreline stretches from Sidon in the north to Gaza in the south. Elaborate title cartouche with vegetal border, flanked by Moses and Aaron. A medallion at base of the cartouche depicts the brass serpent. An additional cartouche at lower right depicts Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden under the snake, wounded around the tree of knowledge.
The engraving was made by Louis Cordier (signed in the plate, in the lower left corner), after Guillaume Sanson.
Engraved map: 89X59 cm; linen-backed and framed: 92X62 cm. Fair condition. Many stains. Fold lines and creases. Small open tears to edges.
