Chorographia Terrae Sanctae in Angustiorem Formam Redacta, map of Palestine. Hand-colored engraving, from Commentarius in Sacram Scripturam, by Jacobi Tirini [Jacobus Tirinus]. [Augsburg, 1711].
Engraved map of Palestine after Christian van Adrichom, signed in the plate: "Jos. Erasm. Belling, Cathol. Sculps. Aug. Vindel" [Josef Erasmus Belling and August Vindel].
The map is east-oriented and depicts Palestine on both sides of the Jordan River, with the territories of the Tribes. The shoreline stretches from Sidon in the north to the Nile Delta. Broken lines depict the route of the Israelites in the desert.
With an inset oval map of a bird's eye view of Jerusalem, "Hierosolymae veteris imago", presumably made by Cornelius Galle, after a map of Jerusalem by Juan Bautista Villalpando. Border with illustrations of ancient coins, a plan of the interior of the Temple and a view of its front, vessels of the Temple and more.
Engraved map: approx. 82X32 cm. Frame: approx. 108X58 cm. Good condition. Unexamined out of frame.
This map was reprinted in several editions which differ, among other things, in their font. The first edition was printed in Antwerp, 1632 (see Laor 771).
