Manuscript, “Psalm upon inauguration of new synagogue of holy Ootmarsum congregation”. Chanukah, 1844.
Ceremony of inauguration of synagogue of Ootmarsum, (Holland) congregation, by Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Hirsch Hertzfeld; includes two songs which he composed [written in vowelized letters]. Acrostic of first song: “Ootmarsum congregation”, and of second song: “Naftali Tzvi Hirsch Chazak Ve’ematz [be strong and courageous]”.
Title page in diamond-shaped frame. Additional leaf attached preceding title page, in same writing, consisting of inscription from 1847: “Gift to my beloved friend Yissaschar...". Signed: Shlomo son of Rabbi Naftali [possibly son of Rabbi Naftali Hertzfeld].
The Ga’on Rabbi Naftali Hirsch Hertzfeld (1782-1846), from distinguished lineage, son of Rabbi Aharon Hertzfeld (rabbi in Koenigsburg and Rawicz) and son-in-law of Rabbi Ya’akov Moshe Lewenstam Av Beit Din of Kleve. His mother was daughter of Rabbi Shlomo of Chelma author of “Merkavat HaMishna”, and his father was grandson of the “Pnei Yehoshua”. He followed his father-in-law to Holland where he was appointed as chief rabbi of Zwolle congregation and districts of Gelderland and Drenthe. Passed away in the same year as his father, and left behind the significant and valuable “Imrei Shefer” manuscript.
