Manuscript, letter of recommendation by rabbis of congregations of Livorno, Alexandria and Akvoy, for benefit of congregation of Lugo. [1830].
Letter of recommendation written in Livorno for the benefit of emissaries of the Lugo congregation which encountered great difficulties (see previous item).
“… imploring cry of our brethren moaning and groaning in the city of Lugo… its merchants have left them destitute with great distress… the unfortunate Jews are hungry and thirsty… “.
Signed: The Ga’on Rabbi Yehoshua Lioni and the Ga’on Rabbi David Mo’ati [among scholars of Algeria, moved to Livorno towards the end of his lifetime. Passed away in approximately 1830. See attached material], and scribe of Livorno congregation.
Margins of leaf and reverse side of leaf contain letter of recommendation to both emissaries, signed by Rabbi Matitya HaLevi Av Beit Din of Alexandria, followed by a letter of recommendation in the handwriting and signature of Rabbi “Shlomo Yehuda son of Rabbi Yechiel Pu’ah” in the city of Akvoy.
