Letter signed by 28 residents of "" neighborhood, to their elderly rabbi, Rabbi Shaul Chaim Horowitz, Rabbi of Nadvorna, in appeal to appoint his daughter’s son “the great rabbi… notable in Torah and reverence of G-D… Rabbi Yosef Gershon Horowitz whom the honorable rabbi adopted as a son”, as rabbi and Halachic ruler of "Me’ah She’arim". Jerusalem, Adar (1907).
Signatories include: Rabbi “Menachem Nachum Katz”, Rabbi “Ya’akov Moshe Charlap”, Rabbi “Nachum Kahana Shapiro”, Rabbi “Raphael Zerach Leib son of Rabbi Mordechai” [of Rockaway], and others.
Rabbi Shaul Chaim Horowitz (1820-1916) Av Beit Din of Dovrovna, son-in-law of the "Nachalat David". Immigrated to Jerusalem in 1883 and was founder and director of the "Me’ah She’arim "Yeshiva and Talumd Torah. Was blessed with longevity, and during his lifetime his daughter’s son, the Ga’on Rabbi Yosef Gershon Horowitz (1869-1951), succeeded him in the "Me’ah She’arim" Rabbinate and Yeshiva leadership.
