Letter from Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneersohn – the Lubavitcher Rebbe, with his hand signature. Brooklyn NY, 11th Nissan 1979.
Typewritten on the official stationery of the rebbe, with his signature.
Addressed to R. Chaim Shalom Segal in Jerusalem, whom he refers to as his relative, in honor of Passover. The rebbe blesses him in his letter: "With the approach of the festival of Matzot, the time of our freedom… I wish to extend my blessings for a kosher and joyous festival, and for true freedom, free from material and spiritual worries – from anything impeding the service of G-d with joy and gladness of heart. May this freedom and joy be extended over the entire year".
At the foot of the letter, the rebbe thanks him for the congratulations he sent him in honor of his birthday on 11th Nissan.
R. Chaim Shalom HaLevi Segal (1918-1983), founder and mashpia in Beit Yehuda – Chabad synagogue in the Nachlaot neighborhood in Jerusalem. 6th generation from the Baal HaTanya. He worked for decades on Rashi's commentary on the Torah, and composed the Tosefet Rashi series on the Bible.
