Leaf Handwritten by Rabbi Shlomo Kluger

Opening: $1,500
Unsold
Large leaf handwritten by the Rabbi Shlomo Kluger. 1829.
Numbered 149, with response no. 260 from his responses related to Yoreh De'ah. The manuscript was checked and compared with well-known manuscripts of the Maharshak.
At the end of the second page he writes that his books and writings were saved from the fire in Brody, "and the fire did not touch our writings and they are wholly with us... Amen".
In the letter appear a few details not intended to be printed: "…inserted here a Mark [=postage or stamp fee], there was no Mark in his letter, I therefore did not pay the Mark, I pay enough the copier fee". In those days the Maharshak used to write his responsa by himself in his notebooks, and the copiers copied from the notebook to letters that were sent to the inquirer. It therefore is obvious that this is the original writing of Rabbi Shlomo Kluger regarding this response.
The Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Kluger (1786-1869). Leading Posek. Officially he served as preacher in Brody, but he influenced all communities, with his halachic rulings and leadership. He wrote on all aspects of the Torah and published more that one hundred books.
