Calendar for the years 1853-1903 - a detailed chart with holidays, Sabbath, Rosh Chodesh, and the weekly Torah portions. Accompanied by a long essay about the Jewish year and calendar system, and a list of Jewish institutes (synagogues, education and welfare institutes, and more) in the USA, Canada and the West Indies.
The calendar was composed by Jacques Judah Lyons (1814-1877), rabbi of the “She’erit Israel” congregation in New-York; and Abraham De-Sola (1825-1882), author and orientalist, rabbi of “She’erit Israel” congregation in Montreal; and it is one of the first Jewish books printed in Canada. 178 pp, 18 cm. Good condition. Significant foxing. Original binding, slightly damaged, partly detached. First and last leaves partly detached. Ownership stamp embossed on one of the pages.
