Charles Wilson's work, presenting a pictorial and verbal overview of the city of Jerusalem. With four engravings depicting Jerusalem and its environs: Views of Jerusalem as seen from the summits of Mt. Scopus and Mt. of Olives; Bethany; and view of Mt. of Olives as seen from Mt. Zion. Also included are a plate with a map of Jerusalem, and dozens of in-text illustrations, representing gates, monasteries and churches, people, costumes, and markets in Jerusalem and its vicinity.
In 1864, Captain Charles Wilson arrived in Jerusalem leading an engineering team. For decades, he worked on behalf of the British government and army as an engineer, land surveyor, and archaeologist. Over the years, he published a number of books and albums on the subject of Palestine.
