Berge, Buddhas und Bären, Forschung und Jagd in Geheimnisvollem Tibet [Mountains, Buddhas and Bears, Research and Hunting in Mysterious Tibet] by Ernst Schäfer, Berlin: Paul Parey, 1933. German.
A short dedication (German) addressed to the members of the Nazi branch in Sarona (Ortsgruppe Sarona) is written on the page preceding the title page, signed by the head of the S.S, Heinrich Himmler. Dated: Berlin, November 9th 1937.
Sarona is the fourth colony established by the Templers in Palestine during the second half of the 19th century. After the Nazis have come to power in Germany, the first Nazi party branch in Palestine was established in Sarona. Sarona was also where the first headquarters of the Hitlerjugend in Palestine was established.
When World War II broke out, many residents of Sarona enlisted to the German fighting-units (serving in the Wehrmacht and the S.S); the Templers in Palestine were declared citizens of an enemy state, and the colony became a British detention-camp.
316, [4] pp + illustration-plates, 21.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Slightly detached and damaged binding. Stains. Two German ink stamps from Sarona: "D.A.F Bucherei Sarona" and "Deutscher Leseverein Sarona Bei Jaffa" [German reading club, Sarona, Jaffa].
