Hayim Sha’al responsum, volumes one and two. By the Chida – Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulai. Livorno, [1792-1795]. First edition.
The first volume’s opening bears the signatures of the great Kabbalist Rabbi Eliyahu Sliman Mani from Hebron (1818-1899), who writes “I purchased it… E. S. M.”, ink-stamps and his full name signature: “the young Eliyahu Sliman Mani”. Previous owners’ erased signatures and a handwritten dedication from the time of print “dedicated to the Midrash Beit Yaakov”.
Volume two has an ownership signature: Rabbi Avraham Hai Musafya (Otzar Harabbanim 1056), of the sages of Turkey and Jerusalem. His book Tehila L'David on Tehilim (Livorno 1867) and his novellae were published also in his father's book, Chaim Vachesed (Livorno 1844).
Owner's ink-stamp: Rabbi Avraham Azriel, son of the Rishon Litzion Rabbi Aharon Azriel, author of Kapei Aharon.
The two volumes are bound together. 120 leaves; [1], 76 leaves. (the “Hayim Sha’al" responsum alone, without the “Shiyure Bracha” and other essays, which were printed along with this responsum).
