Lengthy responsum letter on the laws of Tefillin, by R. Moshe Natan Nota Lemberger, rabbi of Makova-Kiryat Ata, addressed to Rebbe Avraham Yehoshua Heshel Twersky of Machnovka-Bnei Brak. Kiryat Ata, Elul 1970.
Three leaves (typewritten on one side). The letter concludes with the signature and several words handwritten by R. Moshe Natan Nota Lemberger, containing a request that the rebbe of Machnovka pray for him and his family for a good year.
The responsum discusses a concern about the validity of one letter in the head-tefillin written by R. Tzvi Hirsh Sofer, scribe of the Baal Shem Tov, which were in the possession of Rebbe Avraham Yehoshua Heshel Twersky of Machnovka. R. Lemberger offers various reasons to render the tefillin valid, and concludes his responsum with blessings for the new year.
R. Moshe Natan Nota Lemberger, Rabbi of Makova-Kiryat Ata (1909-1983), author of Ateret Moshe. Rabbi of Makova (Makó, Hungary) from 1936, he rebuilt the community there after the Holocaust, eventually immigrating to Eretz Israel where he settled in Kiryat Ata and established a yeshiva there.
This responsum was published in his Responsum Ateret Moshe, with the omission of the handwritten words added at the end of the letter.
