A draft for the children's rhyme book "Kaf Hayad" (The Palm, by Zehava Yariv-Bein, published by "Amikam for Children", [1970]). Illustrations by Dani Karavan (b. 1930).
The draft is composed of illustrations, printed texts mounted in their designated place and printing instructions. 28 pages are illustrated in pencil and 16 pages are illustrated in black marker, black and pink ink and white correction fluid; several of the illustrations appear more than once. The corners of the leaves were cut to form an octagon, which is also the final shape of the book.
Dani Karavan (b. 1930), sculptor, set designer and painter, pioneer of environmental art in Israel. He was awarded several important prizes, including the 1977 Israel Prize for sculpture, the 1994 UNESCO Picasso Medal, and the 2004 Piepenbrock Prize for sculpture. His most famous works include: the Jerusalem City of Peace wall relief in the Knesset assembly hall; the monument to the Negev Brigade; "The White Plaza" and the Habima Square in Tel-Aviv; the Square of Tolerance, Tribute to Yitzhak Rabin, in Paris; and more.
