Two sketches for illustrations to legends about King Solomon, by Ze'ev Raban. [ca. 1920s].
1. "Vayuva Ashmedai Lifne HaMelech", sketch for an illustration – the legend "Shlomo veAshmedai" by Haim Nachman Bialik. Watercolor on paper.
Approx. 21X13 cm, framed: 52.5X42.5 cm. Good condition. Slight creases and stains. A number of tears at margins of leaves, reinforced with adhesive tape. Unexamined out of frame.
Literature: Zeev Raban, Hebrew Symbolist by Bat-Sheva Goldman Ida. ( Tel Aviv Museum of Art and Yitzchak Ben-Zvi Institute, 2001. Item no. 169.2 (p. 127).
2. Shlomo HaMelech al Kis'o, sketch for an illustration (apparently for a legend about King Solomon adapted by Haim Nachman Bialik). Watercolor and pencil on paper.
Leaf: 24X16 cm. Good condition. Stains. Creases. Small tears at margins of leaf. Lower left corner of leaf is missing (no damage to illustration). Matted.
