Wimpel (Ashkenazi Torah binder), from the circumcision of Yehudah Aryeh Dreyfus. [Alsace?], 1868.
Hand painted Linen, plain embroidery around the hem.
The long linen Torah binder is composed of four strips of fabric finely stitched together. The inscription and decorations are hand painted. Inscribed: "Yehudah Aryeh known as Aryeh Leib son of Shmuel Dreyfus, was born on Wednesday 6 Iyar, 1868.May his parents merit to raise him to Torah, Chupa and Ma’asim Tovim”. The decorations above the letters are composed of birds and floral motifs. The zodiac sign - Taurus is embroidered in red threads under the date of birth. This Wimpel is traditionally designed with an open Torah scroll, a wedding canopy and relevant verses. The wedding canopy here is a splendid open tent with a verse blessing the young couple.
226x15 cm, good condition, some stains on the fabric.
