Sur le mur des lamentations [On the Western Wall], anti-Semitic propaganda brochure from Vichy France. [France, ca. 1940-1944]. French.
A propaganda brochure of the Vichy regime against the Allies and the Jews. One of its sides depicts a graffiti-sprayed brick wall, with the letter "V" (victory) and the inscription "On the Western Wall" (French). On verso, there are three illustrations: the symbol of the "Cross of Lorraine" (the symbol of the Free French Forces during World War II) above the silhouette of General Charles de Gaulle; the symbol of the pound sterling coin, £, interwoven in the "Cross of Lorraine", above the silhouette of Winston Churchill; and a star-of-David encircling the "Cross of Lorraine"/ pound sterling, above the silhouette of a Jew. Beneath the illustrations there is an explanatory inscription: "une illusion, une espérance.. = la réalité" [Illusion, Hope = Reality!]
