Two Ketubot from the small town of Kulashi (Western Georgia):
1. Ketubah from the wedding of Shalom son of Aharon with Chava daughter of Aharon, [1940]. Witnesses’ signatures in Georgian.
2. Ketubah from the wedding of Yitzchak son of Gabriel with Ruth daughter of Gabriel, [1948]. Witnesses’ signatures in Georgian and one Hebrew signature: “Shabtai son of Chakham Avraham Michaelshvili”.
Both Ketubot were handwritten in Rashi letters and are decorated with plain adornments.
Georgia was the only USSR country where Judaism was kept openly through Synagogue services and Jewish weddings.
