The Ga'on Rabbi Meir Shapiro (1887-1934), founder of Daf HaYomi and among the greatest rabbis of his generation, member of Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah, served as Rabbi in Pietrekov and Lublin. He founded and ran the Chochmei Lublin Yeshiva. His vision for building the Yeshiva included establishing a large library, which he did, and included his private collection in it This library was plundered by the Nazis, and a large portion of it was burned by them.
