Two protective amulets. Eastern Europe, [late 19th or early 20th century].
1. Round amulet. Obverse: the letter "Heh" surrounded by the legend "The boy will be raised … to Torah, marriage and good deeds "(Hebrew). Reverse: "May the [evil eye?] have no power over [this] child". The name "Shadai" appears in the center surrounded by a schematic decoration. A suspension loop on top.
Diameter: 27 mm. Fair condition. Wear. Small fractures at margins. Corrosion.
According to the owner, this item originates in Podolia.
2. Round amulet. Obverse: the letter "Heh" surrounded by the legend: "May […] boy grow to Torah, marriage and g[ood deeds]". Reverse: decoration designed as a sun surrounded by the legend: "In the merit of Abraham and Sarah and Isaac and Rebecca Jacob and Leah" (Hebrew).
Diameter: 26 mm. Fair condition. Corrosion. Chips to margins. Stains. Wear.
