Torah shield. East Europe, early 19th century.
Silver (not marked).
A dense composition adorns the shield on which appear three of the four animals mentioned in the phrase "Fierce as a Tiger and fast as an Eagle…" (Avot). In the center – Tablets of the Law (engraved), a Menorah with two deer on its sides and heraldic lions. On the top – two eagles. In a cartouche on the bottom of the shield: "Lea daughter of R' Yehiel". Engraved circles form the background of the shield.
Fair-poor condition, crown on top is broken and missing. Cracks and breaks, repairs with tin.
