The story Solon in Lydien was published by Herzl in 1900 as a short story. The plot takes place in the 6th century BC, and it is named for the legendary meeting between Solon of Athens and Krausus, King of Lydia. The story describes the influence of technological change on Viennese society. Herzl adapted the story to a play. It was preformed in Israel by HaOhel in 1949, when Herzl's bones were brought to be buried in Israel.
