Bound with: Chochmat Shlomo Maharshal, Talmudic novellae by R. Shlomo Luria. Fürth: Itzek son of Leib [Buchbinder], [1775].
Copy of Rebbe Chanoch Henich HaKohen of Alexander, author of Chashavah LeTovah. Lengthy inscriptions on the endpapers, attesting that the book belonged to Rebbe Chanoch Henich, handwritten by his grandson R. Yisrael Mordechai Morgenstern (dated 1858-1859).
Additional inscriptions: "Chanoch Henich HaKohen" (similar to the signature of R. Chanoch Henich, on letters offered in past Kedem Auctions).

Rebbe Chanoch Henich HaKohen Levin of Alexander (1798-1870), author of Chashavah LeTovah, leading disciple of R. Simcha Bunim of Peshischa and of the Yehudi HaKadosh of Peshischa. He held a rabbinic position for close to 40 years, first in Alexander and Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, and later in Prosnitz (Przasnysz). Served as rebbe of the Ger and Kotsk courts after the passing of the Chiddushei HaRim.
His grandson, whose inscriptions appear in this book is R. Yisrael Mordechai Morgenstern of Lodz, son of R. Menachem Mendel Morgenstern (nephew of Rebbe Menachem Mendel of Kotsk).
Two books bound together [1], 69 leaves; 31, 33-46, 46-47, 49-67 leaves. 35 cm. Fair-poor condition. Stains and mold. Tears and significant worming. Detached leaves. Various stamps. Original binding, torn and damaged, without spine.
Provenance: One of the Jewish books recovered in Poland after the Holocaust and sent to Israel by the National Library in Warsaw. Distributed to synagogues and rabbis by the Ministry of Religions. Ownership inscription handwritten by the Jerusalem kabbalist R. Avraham Moshe Hamburger.
