The work comprises three parts: I. History of the Alter Rebbe Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, Baal HaTanya and Shulchan Aruch (this part includes the history of Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Vitebsk); II. History of Rabbi Dov Ber, the Mitteler Rebbe of Lubavitch, son of the Alter Rebbe; III. History of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, the Tzemach Tzedek of Lubavitch, grandson of the Alter Rebbe.

In a lengthy foreword, the author describes the efforts put into compiling this work, which was based on meticulous primary-source research, and took thirteen years to complete.
