The demonstration was to be held in Yeshivat Me'ah She'arim (in the yeshiva plaza, next to the Yeshhu'ot Ya'akov synagogue, where various demonstrations and gatherings are held even today]. The demonstration's purpose: "to improve the welfare of yeshiva students".

The Jerusalemite Maggid, Rabbi Bentzion Yadler (1872-1962), among the great rabbis of Jerusalem, was appointed regular preacher in The Churva synagogue in the Old City in 1902. He used to travel to speak in settlements around the world in order to strengthen Torah observance and establish Torah schools. Sefer BeTuv Yerushalaim was written about him.
The second signer, Rabbi Binyamin Cohen, was one of the great scholars in Torat Chaim Yeshiva. Together with his friend Rabbi Yadler, he worked to strengthen Torah observance and yeshivot, was involved in matters concerning the city eruv as well as ma'asrot, and founded the Beit Ya'akov HaYashan school for girls.
