Collection of letters and documents of the diverse activity of Rabbi Aharon Mendel (HaRe'em) Ha-Cohen, to establish "a Rabbis Society" and to renew "Ordination".
The collection contains letters to HARA"M: from Rabbi Mordechai Ha-Cohen Strasser, Rabbi of Altendorf (Hungary), concerning "the Society's Book" [1914]; from Rabbi Dov Berish Winter Rabbi of Khorostkiv, regarding assembling a rabbis meeting [ca. 1903]; "circular letter" regarding registration to the Rabbis Society, and two partial "circular letters", with signatures of rabbis [Rabbi Yossef Lerner of Volochysk; Rabbi Avraham Chaim Fliederbaum of Tchekov]; "Maranan Ve-Rabanan" – printed leaf of 1923 declaring the preparations to establish a High Court in Jerusalem; a printed photograph of HaRe'em Ha-Cohen with the inscription: "photograph of our president…gathering leading Jewish figures to establish a court in Jerusalem…"; report [handwritten] of the committee of "Knesset Israel" society, about purchase of land in Jerusalem to establish "the High Court". Part of letter to members of Baghdad community about the same matter [official stationery of the "General Society of Rabbis"].
Rabbi Aharon Menachem Mendel Ha-Cohen (1866-1927). Born in Tiberias, genius and author. Served as Ashkenazi Rabbi of Cairo for about thirty years. Became well known for his diverse activity to renew the "ordination". He organized the "Krakow Conference" in 1903, established the "Rabbis Society", following World War I he established "Knesset Israel" society and acted to establish a central court [resembling a Sanhedrin] in Jerusalem.
