Announcement issued by the East Galicia police. Lemberg, January 1801. German and Polish.
The announcement was taken from the "Binding Geniza". Originally it was printed in German and Polish, but the present copies were cut in order to be used for book binding.
The announcement, number 158, describes a Jewish criminal named Osias Tartakowski, who had fled from the town of Radekhiv a year earlier - he was of medium height, about 50 years old, with reddish hair and beard, a soft voice, a stutter, dressed in a Jewish style and speaking Yiddish and Polish.
Six copies - five with the text in Polish and the lower part of the German text, and the sixth with the text in German and beneath the beginning of the Polish text. Enclosed are parts of four additional announcements, without a Jewish context.
Total of 15 leaves. Approx. 18X23 cm. Fair condition. Dark stains and tears.
