A detailed and comprehensive guide to Eretz Israel, written by several researchers. Each volume deals with different areas in the country (Jerusalem and the vicinity, Jaffa, Hebron, Damascus, Sinai and Egypt) and is accompanied by detailed etchings portraying the area's views, inhabitatns' clothing, customs, etc. The etchings were made after illustrations by John Douglas Woodward and Harry Fenn. In one of the volumes appears a Map of Eretz Israel, in color.
5. Social Life in Egypt, a Description of the Country and its People, by Stanley Lane-Poole. London: J.S. Virtue and Co. [ca. 1880]. English. Picturesque Palestine Appendix, dealing with Egypt and accompanied by numerous etchings describing the country and its people.
Total of five volumes. Average size 33 cm. About 45 etching plates and hundreds of additional etchings integrated into the book. Gilded leaf edges. Good condition. Foxing-marks, damages to some of the bindings. Some of the etchings are stained. Fine bindings, some of them restored.
