Photo Album of the "Ohel" Theater – The Play "Jeremiah" by Stefan Zweig – Tel-Aviv, 1933 – a Gift to the Member of the Histadrut Shlomo Shulkis

Opening: $150
Sold for: $425
Including buyer's premium
An album containing twenty four photographs of the "Ohel" theater. Tel Aviv, [1933].
The photographs are mounted to the leaves of the album, a photograph on each leaf, and they document various scenes of the play "Jeremiah" by Stefan Zweig, which was performed for the first time in 1929. On the first leaf there is a handwritten Hebrew dedication: "To the dedicated member S. Shulkis. Respectfully, 'Ohel', the 14th of Adar 5693 [1933], Tel-Aviv" and beside it the stamp of the theater.
The receiver of the album is presumably the member of the Histadrut Labor Federation Shlomo Shulkis, who acted for the allocation of funds to the "Ohel" theater rather than to its competitor in those years – the "HaBimah" theater (in 1934, the Histadrut Labor Federation adopted the theater and its name was changed to "Ohel – the theater of the workers of Palestine").
The leaves of the album are protected with tissue guards and are bound with a string in a cloth-covered binding. Six of the photographs are signed in the plate: "Plastica, Tel-Aviv" (Hebrew). Several are numbered.
24 photographs. Size and condition vary. Good overall condition. The size of the album is approx. 30 cm. Minor blemishes on the leaves. Creases and blemishes on the tissue guards. One tissue guard is detached. Worming in the last leaves and back binding (small, not affecting photographs).
