Comprehensive study of Syria and Palestine, by Olfert Dapper (1639-1689) - Dutch writer, historian and geographer.
Includes an engraved frontispiece, 39 engraved plates (most double-spread or folded) and engravings incorporated in the text. These include maps and engravings that depict Syria, Damascus and Tripoli; maps of Palestine, showing the territories of the 12 Tribes of Israel; maps and illustrations of Jerusalem, the Mount of Olives and Bethlehem; a depiction of Jaffa viewed from the sea, and more.
[5] leaves, 262, [8], 312, 321-344, 337-581, [7] pp + [40] engraved plates, 32 cm. Good overall condition. Stains (a number of dark leaves). Tears to margins of several leaves, and to some of the folded plates (most of the plates are in good condition). Leather binding from the period, with decorations on spine. Defects and light stains to binding and a tear to upper part of spine.
