At the top of the title page is the signature of Rabbi "Shimon Greenfeld" – the Maharshag, Rabbi of Szemihaly (1861-1930), disciple of the "Kol Aryeh", the Maharam Shick and the "Divrei Chaim" of Sanz. Served decades in the rabbinate and as head of the "yeshiva" in Szemihaly and was esteemed as one of the foremost Hungarian rabbis [in that generation people said that the three leading rabbis in Hungary are the Maharshag, Rabbi Yeshaya Zilberstein of Waitzen and Rabbi Mordechai Winkler author of the "Levush Mordechai"]. Left behind more than two thousand halachic responsa, most were printed in the three volumes of Maharshag Responsa.
Detailed ownership inscription: "…The book with the signature of the Holy Gaon 'Sar HaTorah' the Maharshag of Szemihaly is dear to me".
