"First Day of Hebrew Post". Minister Sheet (souvenir sheet) with the first nine stamps of the State of Israel; inscribed by the signatory of the Scroll of Independence David Remez, 1948.
Nine "Do'ar Ivri" (Hebrew Post) postage stamps in the denominations of 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 50, 250, 500 and 1000 Mils, on an official souvenir sheet reading "Iyar 7, 5708, 16.5.1948" and "Do'ar Ivri" at top and "Hayom HaRishon Shel HaDo'ar HaIvri" [first day of Hebrew post] at bottom. This souvenir sheet is known as "Minister Sheet" since it was presented to ministers and VIPs. Its first edition comprised only 40 copies, printed on thick yellowish paper, and the stamps were mounted on them between midnight and the morning of May 16, 1948.
Inscribed on the lower-right corner by the signatory of the Scroll of Independence, David Remez, to one of the founders of the "Yad Vashem" Organization, Baruch Zuckerman: "… to Baruch and Nina Zuckerman, D. Remez, Montreux, 5708" (Hebrew). The dedication was presumably written during the World Jewish Congress held in Switzerland in June-July 1948.
The 5 Mil postage stamp rouletted.
Sheet: 21.5X26 cm. Good condition. Creases and minor blemishes.
