Minimalist Hanukkah Lamp – Moshe Murro – Israel, 1950s

Opening: $250
Sold for: $325
Including buyer's premium
Hanukkah lamp designed by Moshe Murro. Israel, [1950s]. Brass; cast, pierced, bent and turned; appliqué. Marked on bottom "Murro Jerusalem – reg. design – Made in Israel". Thin branches, grouped and set at a slant on a trapezoid base. Base inscribed (Hebrew) "To kindle the Hanukkah light". Unlike Murro's early works, which were heavily ornamental in the orientalist spirit of early Bezalel artists, this late menorah demonstrates the influence of Art Deco and minimalism characteristic of New Bezalel artists and the period in general. The menorah in not recorded in "Lighting the Way to Freedom" (2006) neither in other collections of early Israeli Hanukkah lamps, and presumably, is not recorded among Murro's works. Base: 12.5X28 cm. Height: approx. 44 cm. Good condition. Minor blemishes. Some stains.
