Leopold (Lipót) Lőw (1811-1875), historian and one of the first Neolog rabbis in Hungary. Lőw was born in Černá Hora (South Moravia), studied in several yeshivot and then studied philology, education and Christian theology. In 1841 started to serve as rabbi in Nagykanizsa, Hungary, learned Hungarian and was the first to introduce this language into the synagogue. Later on served as chief rabbi of Szeged. During the years 1858-1867 edited a Hebrew paper named "Ben Hananya" – journal of the reform Hungarian Jews. VIII, 123, [1] pp, 24.5 cm. Good condition. Stains, minor tears. Tears and damage to binding.
