Manuscript, Rashei Besamim, commentary on the Shulchan Aruch, laws of Shechita, by Rabbi David Mizrachi [Mashraki], author of Shetilei Zetim, in the handwriting of his disciple Rabbi Yehiya son of R' Yosef Tzalach (Salah) - the Maharitz. Yemen, 1774.
Complete manuscript, in small format. Neat, particularly elegant Yemenite handwriting, characteristic to the handwriting of the Maharitz. The text of the Shulchan Aruch is in the center, flanked by the Rashei Besamim commentary. In a few places, the Maharitz integrated his own glosses [in "windows" within the text].
Designed title page, headed by the verse "You may slaughter of your cattle and of your sheep …" written in scribal writing with crowns (tagim), above the title: "This book recounts the history of man…". Written vertically above the word "man" are the author's initials: "Adoneinu David Mizrachi".
The date appears on the margins of the title page: "The holy work was completed on the 6th of Cheshvan…1774…".
Rabbi Yehiya son of R' Yosef Tzalach (Salah) - the Maharitz (1715-1805), was the most notable Yemenite rabbi in the 18th century and one of the leading Poskim Acharonim. See previous item.
On the blank leaf following the title page are long inscriptions, written at a later time. Several later marginalia.
[2], 62 leaves. 16 cm. Wide lower margins. Good condition. Stains. Worming. New leather binding.
See a review of this manuscript by Rabbi Yitzchak Ratzabi, in his introduction to the book Piskei Maharitz, Vol. 6, Bnei Brak 1993.
