Manifiesto – a printed pamphlet on behalf of the sages of the Amsterdam Sephardi community, concerning the Sabbatean Nehemiah Chiya Hayyun. [Amsterdam, 1713]. Spanish. In this pamphlet, the Sephardi sages of Amsterdam report that they have examined the book Oz L'Elokim published by Nehemiah Hayyun (which contains the composition of Sabbatai Zevi – Raza D'Meheimanuta), and they have found it clear of Sabbatean doctrines. At that time, Hayyun was in the center of an acute polemic. Rabbi Zvi Ashkenazi, the Chacham Zvi, Rabbi of the Ashkenazi Amsterdam community, and Rabbi Moshe Chagiz, led a struggle against Hayyun, announced that he is a Sabbatean and banned him. On the other hand, the Sephardi community sages, headed by Rabbi Solomon Ayllón defended Hayyun and in this pamphlet they give a long explantion of their perspective of supporting him. As a result of this polemic which broke out between the Chacham Zvi and the Sephardi community, the Chacham Zvi was forced to leave the Amsterdam rabbinate. 12 pages. 23 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains, wear and tears to margins. New binding.
