Letter about Mikveh's from Rabbi Moshe Stern of Debrecen, to Rabbi Hanania Yom Tov Lippa Deitsch of Helmetz. Brooklyn, New York. End of Tishrei 1975.
The strong letter, came as a reaction to the instruction of one of the rabbis who allowed using a filter in the mikveh, despite the halachic problems this causes: "…it concerns the purity for which our ancestors sacrifised themselved to keep the mikveh pure…with no innovations and it should continue and be built according to the Halachah…"
The halachic polemic stirred up the communities in the United States and Eretz Yisrael. Rabbi Moshe Stern wrote a few letters on this matter in 1975 (printed in Otzrot Yerushalayim, issue 178, together with letters of other rabbis – see attached photocopy). This letter is an additional one on the same matter, and it contains the summary of his ideology regarding this halachic obstacle. [We do not know if this important letter was ever printed].
Rabbi Moshe Stern (died 1996), sone of Rabbi Avraham of Debrecen author of "Melitzei Esh". Served in Rabbinate about 50 years. Leading Posek in the United States.
Wrote many halachic responses, some of which were published in the eight volumes of Be'er Moshe Responsum.
