A letter handwritten and signed by Rebbe Yehuda Leib Twersky of Hornostaipil, to Rabbi Yosef, Rabbi of Kopys. Antwerp, [c. 1938]. "ג€¦ and I bless you for the New Year that it should be a year of life and blessing, a year of redemption and salvation for society and for individuals, and they shall merit raising children to Torah and fear of Heaven and good deeds".
Rebbe Yehuda Leib Twersky (1868-1951), son of Rebbe Mordechai Dov of Hornostaipil and grandson of the "Divrei Chaim" of Sanz. In 1913, was chosen to succeed his father (although he was his father's third son). Great Torah scholar and outstanding tzaddik. He was a great philanthropist and did loving kindness like his grandfather the "Divrei Chaim", who never left a penny overnight in his home. After World War I, he moved from place to place, to Cracow and Warsaw. In 1937, he moved to Antwerp, from there escaped to the US, four days before the German occupation of Antwerp. Established his Beit Midrash in Chicago and continued his acts of charity as before, but withdrew and did not receive the public or write kvitlach, besides for a small number of senior Chassidim. Letters written by him are very rare.
Official stationery, 28 cm. Good condition, file holes and wear to leaf margins.
