Letter (unsigned) handwritten by R. Avraham Yeshayahu Karelitz, author of Chazon Ish, regarding the use of electric milking machines on Shabbat. [Bnei Brak, ca. 1940s].
The letter (partially damaged) discusses the permissible way of using automatic milking machines on Shabbat. The Chazon Ish rules that the machine can only be used with the milk going to waste, and rejects a different solution which was suggested. Further in the letter, he proposes a way of building the machines which would solve the halachic prohibitions involved.
