Hanukkah lamp. Israel, [ca. 1950s].
Cast brass. Marked: “Hand Made in Israel” (on bottom).
Erect Hanukkah lamp with an oval base bearing the (Hebrew) inscription: “These lights are sacred”. The principal feature of the back plate is the crouched figure of Moses, in relief, after the renowned statue by Michelangelo. The bar supporting the row of nine candle sockets – including one slightly elevated socket in the middle for the servant light – is positioned in the center, above Moses’s head and supported by it, and by a pair of gently curving branches on either side.


Height: 19 cm. Width at base: 14.5 cm. Maximal width: 18.5 cm. Good condition.
