Includes the article "Mechanism and Expression" by historian, photographer and art critic Franz Roh and 76 reproduction plates of photographs, most from the Stuttgart exhibition Film und Foto [an exhibition held in 1929 presenting the New Vision movement, which emerged in the 1920s]. The book includes works by Lazar (El) Lissitzky, Man Ray, László Moholy-Nagy, John Heartfield, Dziga Vertov, Walter Peterhans and many others. Book cover designed by designer and typographer Jan Tschichold.
On the front cover is a self-portrait of El Lissitzky.
