Double plate (engraving) from the book "Atlas Historique, ou nouvelle introduction a l'histoire, a la chronologie & a la geographie ancienne & moderne", [Amsterdam, 1731]. French.
Shown on the top half of the leaf are the portraits of four women, including a Jewish woman from Izmir. Printed around the portraits is an explanatory text (in French) regarding the traditional garments of women in Greece and Izmir, and the garments of Jewish women in Izmir. On the bottom half of the leaf are three additional illustrations.
Engraving: approx. 38X44 cm (leaf: 44X51.5 cm). Good condition. Vertical folding mark and creases. Stains, mostly to margins and bottom part of the engraving. Small tears to margins. Tear along the bottom part of the vertical folding mark, reinforced with paper pasted to leaf verso (with slight damage to engraving).
