Book on the history of the Inquisition, with seven engraved plates. The book describes, among other things, the Inquisition's investigation procedure and its various methods of torture. One of the chapters expands on the Inquisition's Jewish victims; another chapter presents the story of Isaac Martin, accused of being a Jew and put on trial by the Inquisition in the 18th century.
The book's seven engravings show the Inquisition building in Grenada (Spain), an auto-da-fé procession, the clothing of the Inquisition's prisoners, various methods of torture, and more.
VIII, 532, [4] pp + [7] plates, 24 cm. Good condition. Creases and stains (dark stains to some leaves). Leather binding, somewhat loose, with blemishes and small tears (mostly to margins and spine). Bookplates, paper labels and ink inscriptions on inside front binding. Ink stamp on the back endpaper (the leaf is detached from the book).
