A Hanukkah Lamp made by "Pal-Bell" company, designed by Morris Ashkelon. Palestine, ca. 1948. Cast and sawn brass. Marked: "Pal-Bell Co. Ltd. Made in Eretz Israel".
Back plate is designed as two delicate olive tree branches. Eight oil fonts designed as clay oil lamps are arranged in a semi-circle. The shamash is not fixed, identical.
Morris Ashkelon (Klein; 1913-2003) – important sculptor and industrial designer, born in Hungary. In 1939 he founded the "Pal-Bell" company, with his brother in law Avraham Komm.. They were hoping to manufacture top-quality applied and decorative metal art objects. Towards the late 1940s the partners separated and Morris Ashkelon continued to head "Pal-Bell" for 17 more years and design brass products.
